Mental Well-Being
Children living in poverty often experience higher levels of stress due to unstable housing, lack of access to basic needs, and limited support at home. This stress can impact their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and engage with their peers. Without the stability and security they need, these children may struggle to develop the resilience, confidence, and social skills essential for healthy mental growth.
Poor mental well-being is a significant challenge for many children, in Victoria, approximately 12.6% of children and youth aged 4–17 experience mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, and chronic stress.
CFAX Santas Anonymous supports children’s mental well-being by helping to fund programs like The Victoria Women's Transition House "PEACE Camps," which offer a safe, supportive environment for children who have experienced or are at risk of abuse, with a focus on education and empowerment. By teaching healthy relationships, personal safety, and coping strategies, the camps help improve children's mental health and resilience, fostering a sense of security and self-confidence.
These grants play a vital role in providing children with the resources and support they need to overcome barriers to poor mental health. By funding programs that offer education, emotional support, and safe spaces, these initiatives equip children with the tools to cope with challenges, build resilience, and foster positive mental well-being.
